Hello readers,
We’re thrilled to bring you an exclusive Q&A with Jane Davidson, author of the hauntingly beautiful novel The River’s Whisper. Jane’s been a friend of Page Turner Press for years, and last week, we sat down with her over coffee to talk about her craft, her inspirations, and what’s next. Here’s the full scoop:
Q: What inspires your writing?
A: I find so much in nature—quiet walks by the river near my home are where most of my ideas are born. The sound of water, the rustle of leaves—it’s like the world whispering stories to me. Sometimes I’ll sit on the bank with a notebook and just let the words flow.
Q: How do you start a new book?
A: It always begins with a single image. For The River’s Whisper, it was a woman standing alone on a foggy dock. I don’t outline much—I let that image pull me into the story, and the characters tell me where to go. It’s messy, but it works for me.
Q: Any writing tips for aspiring authors?
A: Write what you’d want to read. Don’t chase trends or force a style that isn’t yours. And don’t be afraid of the rough draft—it’s supposed to be a mess! Just get it down, then shape it later.
Q: What’s next for you?
A: I’m working on something new—a story about a librarian who uncovers a hidden archive. It’s early days, but I’m excited to see where it leads.
Jane’s signing copies of The River’s Whisper at Page Turner Press this Saturday, February 15th, from 2-4 PM. We’ll have hot cider and cookies, and Jane’s bringing her famous wit. RSVP on our site if you can—it’s going to be a cozy afternoon of book talk!
Yours in stories,
